If you want to do some serious touring this summer, now is the time to get a serious touring bike. The Rocky Mountain Sherpa 30 is a true dedicated touring bike. It has a strong Reynolds 725 steel frame. This is what it takes to handle extended trips with a heavily loaded bike. The frame also has all the attachment points for front and rear cargo racks. The frame geometry provides for a more comfortable upright riding position. This touring bike also has a longer wheelbase for more comfort that comes with a steadier ride and better directional stability The bicycle is equipped with a triple chainring with 30, 42, and 52 teeth, and a 11 to 32 tooth cassette on the back wheel. This provides better than 1 to 1 gearing needed for going up hills with a heavy load. The bike comes with a hefty rear rack for carrying panniers. Also included are the racks for carrying panniers on each side of the front forks. The bike has 700 X 28 Continental tires. However, this frame has plenty of clearance for 32mm and 35mm tires (and in all likelihood, there's room for 38 mm tires). The frame size is officially 53 cm (medium). This size is typically suitable for riders 5'7" to 5'10", but I get the impression this particular bike can easily accomodate people a little taller than this. This bike is in excellent condition. The frame and headset are almost new (used less than 1 season). The wheels are nearly new (used about a year). The derailleur and brakes have also been upgraded. It has a brand new Shimano chain (never used). History: I originally had a Mikado touring bike (which I also used for commuting). When I bought it in under warranty because of a problem weld, I was told they could not provide me with a Mikado replacement frame because it was no longer being made. Instead, I was offered a new Rocky Mountain touring frame (a better quality frame with better brand recognition). However, I only used the new Rocky Mountain for a few months before I put the bike away. I have since been saving the bike for some sort of epic touring ride (maybe across Canada). I now realize I won't be doing such a ride, so I have decided to sell the bike. You can find a review of the Rocky Mountain (almost identical to the one I'm selling) at: https://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/page/?page_id=60174 Asking $780. (Reasonable offers considered - No lowball offers.) Located near the Carlingwood Shopping Centre.
